Description
I love the way a simple flower can become something quite dramatic when you start playing with colour and light.
With Tulips, I wanted the flowers to really stand out, using rich reds, warm oranges and touches of golden yellow against a deep, moody background. The softer flowers behind them add a little depth, while the brighter tulips take centre stage.
I particularly enjoyed letting the brushwork remain expressive, giving the painting a sense of movement and character rather than making every detail perfectly precise.

The deep edges of the canvas are painted in the same rich, dark tones as the background, giving the artwork a lovely continuous finish.
